PROOFREADING & COPY EDITING
Ready to publish or go live?
DON’T DO IT!
Not until you’ve edited and proofread your content, at least.
Most people get a little confused by the whole proofing and editing deal. The two are closely related, but not the same, much like Marmite and Vegemite.
This is undertaken when the writing stage is completed and involves tasks such as:
- Checking copy for correct
grammer, spelling and punctuation
- Ensuring style is consistent throughout
- Ensuring the content fits with the publication or brand voice
- Rewriting part or all of the content to improve
strutureand eliminate wordiness or complicated jargon
2 – 3 rounds of revision are often undertaken before content is ready for proofreading.
After the copy has gone through the editing phase, its time for proofreading to begin. The written material has now been revised and laid out in the final design.
Proofreading does not involve any major changes to the text. it helps to pinpoint any minor errors in text or formatting that may have been overlooked during the rounds of editing. Once this has been completed, your copy is ready to go!
Note: There are 3 purposeful errors in my content. If you didn’t pick them up, consider hiring me to proof your copy!
